Playing Gears, it's not as quiet as I expected it to be. Actually, it's hard to tell the difference from the one that I had.

Finally see what I was talking about?

I don't know if we are the exception to the rule, or the others are less than informed.

others are just less informed, nick said the same thing, its loud. Its not "whisper" quiet as was percieved, trust me its nost just "us", its just comparably quiter to a launch system I believe...

when your loading a campaign in gears does it may like a weird noise just for the intial loading. Cant really describe more as a high pitch hum for like 4 secodns or so then stops?

#5 - posted by TheHunter (205.166.7*.*)2007-02-23 22:58:32
I didn't notice that. But, instead my loading seems slower and I see the sign loading more often... At this point, I'm sick of searching, I'll just keep it as long as it doesn't break on it.

#6 - posted by backdown00 (167.206.23*.*)2007-02-23 23:07:15
yea you need to sit close to hear it, it only does it the first time it loads the campaign like its reading the CD, I cant say I notice any difference in loading. The only thing I noticed was my system runs signifigantly cooler. its not as hot in the back after i'm done playing.

backdown00, have you noticed that when you join co op your character won't get textured in for a while? I see loading message while playing single player with this drive. Dunno if I want to get it exchanged or not.

#8 - posted by backdown00 (69.123.10*.*)2007-02-25 08:03:28
what do you mean you see a loading message while playing single player?

#9 - posted by backdown00 (69.123.10*.*)2007-02-25 18:06:47
hey hunter, curious how long does it take your gears to load a campaign you are continuing?

#10 - posted by TheHunter (71.112.9*.*)2007-02-25 20:59:19
There is a text, "Loading" sometimes while playing single player if you "explore" instead of just go straight forward. I don't have a stop watch with me... Just it seems slower than the other 360 that I returned. I guess, I can be just happy with lowered noise level, and move on, although I'm still curious about this mythical silent driver with faster loading time that sounds too good to be true.

#11 - posted by backdown00 (69.123.10*.*)2007-02-25 22:35:27
so when you explore, what type of loading message do u get..

#12 - posted by backdown00 (69.123.10*.*)2007-02-26 03:34:36
this xbox is going back, its like randomly putting scratching on my gears CD

#13 - posted by TheHunter (71.112.9*.*)2007-02-26 04:40:43
Sorry to hear that. I had a graphical corruption, but didn't happen since it happened once... I don't know this newer 360 seems flaky. please let us know if you get another BenQ model.

It's the word, "load" on bottom leftside.

#14 - posted by backdown00 (69.123.10*.*)2007-02-26 04:43:55
hey hunter, do you have aim or a gmail? it'd make it much easier to talk hehe. I have not experienced the load problem and if u go onto youtube, the benq is quiter than those damn samsungs that have videos up there hehe

backdown00 or thehunter which drive did u have before, ive got hitachi and its only loud wen i first put a disc in then it quiets down and i barley notice it so how much quieter is the benq compared to the hitachi or samsung is it really NOTICABLE or is it just abit quieter

#16 - posted by backdown00 (167.206.23*.*)2007-02-26 20:09:54
You will only notice a difference in sound when your drive is loading something. as the older drives make some clicking noises, the benQ drive does not click. Thats as far as i'm concerned the only difference =). I had a hitachi before and I really did not notice a difference in noise while a CD is just in it.

Hey, Backdown00, are you saying that the drive noise goes away after the initial time? Mine stays on as long as I play any game on DVD until I go back to dashboard.

Anyway, email me by clicking on my name if you want further discussion. For everyone else, don't bother email me since it's going directly to trash can. :P

I emailed ya hunter - we can stay in touch on this matter and work it through see if its the way the drive is and stuff, we'll get to the bottom of this!

#22 - posted by Daniel (88.105.2*.*)2007-03-03 19:14:09
so... backdown00 its not that quiet because on xbox scene forums xboxizgood says that it is super quiet and load stuff faster is it true?

QUOTE(nightslide @ Feb 21 2007, 05:12 PM) *

That's exactly what i've been trying to say this entire time, you CAN hear the drive, it is only comparibly quieter than the other drives. Now seriously, I think the mods are tired of hearing how quiet or not quiet the drive is. The drive is quieter than other drives but you are going to hear it when a disc is put in.

I said the same damn thing in NUMEROUS threads about the BenQ. Were people that dumb to think it was SILENT, or did they just not read my posts? It's a mechanical device. It makes noise. Just not as much noise as the other drives. If your BenQ drive is still loud, then maybe you got a lemon or need to break out the level and give the 360 a truly flat surface to sit on. When the BenQ passes "the wife test" on noise versus my other 360 and 5 other 360s owned by friends, I'd say the BenQ is a big step up. Can you still hear the drive....? YES. Is it much quieter than the other drives? Hell yes.

Thats quoted from xboxizgood - its basically the sum of it, you will still hear the drive spin up etc, just less noisy than others and much quieter when pulling data from the CD. It also gets quieter as I play my 360 so thats a plus to me too hehe.

With my efforts, I went through two BenQ equipped 360s, and you'll be disappointed how NOT quiet that is. One that I have right now, is every bit as loud as my Sammy 360. Do you remember all those claims of my Sammy is quieter than your Hitachi, and so on? It's simply like Forest Gump's chocolate box; you don't know what you're getting. Also, as backdown00 said, there is no totally silent 360. My PS3 and Wii are much quieter than any of 360s I've seen. (I've heard more then a dozen). Get a 360 for the games, not for the quietness.

Does your BenQ drive have the small grinding noises upon power up?
Thanks..
