I've done this. Just be careful to buy a home with more comsetic problems than structural. You want the kind of house that if your money runs out, good old elbow grease will get you through. If you still have to repair a sinking foundation and you're out of money, you're stuck with the house. Not to mention sitting at a slant.

Charlie, The word count is firm. The short answer is: yes. I would hate to lose a good piece of work bescuae of 91 words. In the end, it's up to the judges. Having been one twice, I balk at anything over the requirements. This is not an arbitrary decision. When I submit to other publications I adhere to their standards to the letter. The last thing you want to do is get a judge/editor/publisher to roll their eyes bescuae the author is pushing their luck. This may sound harsh, but these readers have to draw the line somewhere and they will do so here. Keep in mind we have a knock the socks off' policy. I've peeked at a few that were over (anything 100 over was dismissed immediately) and neither one of them fit the bill. As an author myself, I would suggest keeping not only these thoughts in mind, but also Rule #17. Strunk and White's dictum in The Elements of Style . . . Omit Needless Words. Of course, I won't be judging your manuscript, but it wouldn't be hard to guess that cutting 8% from the work would improve it. If your writing, however, is that tight, then please submit something shorter and offer the other piece elsewhere.
